Motown sweeps Twinkies

Game 1 at Tiger Stadium  August 26
Mickey Lolich (who through the 1st no hitter in KOD History) tosses his second consecutive shutout and wins his third of the season as the Tigers won their 3rd game of the season.  To date the Tigers have captured the opener in each series and then lost the rest.  The Fat Man gave up only 4 hits, striking out 6 and walking 1.  Norm Cash hit his second homer of the season and Al Kaline drove home 2. Tigers 4  Twins 0

Game 2 at Tiger Stadium, August 27
Each team scored a run in the first.  Harmon Killebrew homered off Joe Coleman in the 4th, his 2nd, but the Twins' offense ended there.  Ron LeFlore led the Tiger offense, going 3 for 4, scoring three runs and stealing two bases..  Lou Whitaler and Rusty Staub each drove home two.  Joe Coleman got his first win of the season and with relief help from John Hiller.  Tigers 4  Twins 2

Game 3  at The Metrodome  August 28
Two Tigers took the field with something to prove and both made themselves heard.  Jack Morris had made three relief appearances but had been passed over in the rotation in the previous two series.  He started for the Tigers and showed management how foolish they were by tossing a 4 hit shutout.  Although he also walked three, he was never in danger as the Twins only had a runner on second twice during the game and om;y one reached third.  Al Kaline also was carrying a small chip on his shoulder over having been benched in the previous game.  Buy against Geoff Zahn. the Twins lefthander, he started.  Al Kaline responded with two homers, 4 hits and three rbis.  Willie Horton also had two hits and an rbi in a rare start.  Tigers 4  Twins 0
