GAME 1 - Shockingly 20 runs was scored today in the Astrodome as the Phillies
came out ahead 12 to 8 paced by the harty bat of Mike Schmidt who went
four for six with four RBIs. Jay Johnstone also went three for five and
he had three RBIs and chalked up his first homerun of year. Larry Christenson got the win giving up four runs over seven
innings, but that was good enough for victory on a day where offense was on the menu.
GAME 2 - For
the second day in a row the Astrodome saw double-digit scoring. This time the Astros actually had themselves a 5-3 lead going into the
top of the seventh when Philly exploded for four runs in the seventh and
three runs in the eighth to walk away with a 10 to 5 win. Astro starter Dave Roberts give up three runs in six innings but the bullpen letting
down as Philadelphia banged out 17 hits, including three-hit days from Bake
McBride and Greg Luzinski. Strangely nobody hit any homeruns in a game where 15 runs crossed the plate.
GAME 3 - The series shifted to Philadelphia but the results were the same. The
Phillies won once again, sweeping the series, this time it was a
low-scoring affair. The Phightins' scored four runs over the first 3 frames to salt away the victory. Jay Johnstone paced the offense going two for four with
two runs scored and two RBIs. Johnstone also hit his second homerun of the season. Michael
Jack Schmidt also hit his second homer of the season and if he ever heats
up boy is the rest of the NL East in trouble.
