Joe Coleman scattered 11 hits
and gave up 4 tuns, but the Tigers were able to generate 8 runs on just 9
hits. Jason Thompson drove in the game winning run with a pinch hit
single. Lance Parrish threw out both Rangers who tried to steal.

Jack Morris was virtually
ignored through the first two series of the season. His first start was
a complete game shutout and in this, his second start, he nearly
threw a second shutout, only giving up a solo run in the ninth,.
Meanwhile the Tiger bats went to town on a succession of Ranger
pitchers. They only had one homerun (Steve Kemp) among their 20 hits, but
the scored 15 times. Ron LeFlore had four hits. Rusty Staub drove home 4
runs. Tigers 15 Rangers 1

Mickey Lolich won his 4th
of he year, giving up 7 hits while striking out 8. Steve Kemp homered
for the second straight game (4) and tripled, driving in 4 runs. Tigers
